Kerala Police Chief Rawada Chandrasekhar on Sunday reportedly directed officials to file a case against former Director General of Police (DGP) Tomin J. Thachankary for misusing official insignia (DGP star board) on a private vehicle after retirement.

Earlier, the state police chief had directed the Kottayam District Superintendent of Police (SP) to conduct an investigation into the allegation and submit a detailed report. The Kottayam SP’s investigation confirmed a violation of rules on the part of Thachankary. Following this, it was reported that the police chief had directed the Kottayam SP to file a case against Thachankary for misusing official insignia (DGP star board) on a private vehicle after retirement.

There is a possibility that a detailed investigation will be conducted into whether Thachankary has been using the official insignia in this manner since his retirement.

The former Director General of Police (DGP) reportedly arrived at the Vigilance Court in Kottayam in a vehicle bearing a three-star insignia plate. A complaint has been lodged with the police seeking an investigation into the incident.

Activist Kulathur Jaisingh has filed a complaint at the Kottayam West police station and with the state police chief, seeking an inquiry into whether a retired officer improperly used a vehicle displaying official insignia reserved for serving DGP- and ADGP-rank officers.
